Piano Lessons
Our dynamic, engaging piano program for ages 5–18 blends tradition with creativity. Students will:
Learn both traditional piano repertoire and contemporary/pop styles
Explore improvisation
Incorporating improvisation into lessons encourages musical freedom at the piano creating well-rounded players.
Create their own compositions in our annual composing unit
Read lead sheets and chord charts
This imperative skill allows students to build confidence participating in jazz bands, playing on worship teams, accompanying themselves or others, and making arrangements of songs. Chord training is also the building blocks to better sight reading and understanding of music theory.
Develop strong foundations in technique, rhythm, and music theory
Play music games and enjoy off-bench activities to reinforce concepts and increase motivation
Use thoughtfully integrated technology to enhance learning
Build confidence through multiple performance opportunities
Participate in periodic group lessons to build confidence and community
At AJ’s, we’re not just teaching piano—we’re inspiring creativity, musicality, and a lifelong love of music.

Ideally students will have a tuned acoustic piano for their studies. If this is not feasible for your family, an 88-key digital piano keyboard will suffice. Keys need to be weighted and touch-sensitive. Piano also needs a working pedal.
A well-maintained, quality instrument is essential for effective learning and ensures that your investment in tuition yields the best results.

Many students opt to take voice lessons along with their other instrument of study. Students studying both piano and voice can opt to combine the lessons to have one full hour of instruction.
